MARDAN (from FAZAL HAQ): The Punjab government has stopped supplying flour to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a move political and social circles call illegal, unconstitutional, and anti-people. Punjab holds abundant wheat reserves, yet it halted flour deliveries to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, causing widespread concern. Officials reportedly extort large amounts from trucks carrying secret flour, worsening the crisis. This Punjab flour ban in KP has sparked anger among citizens, traders, and local business communities alike.

The non-supply of flour has pushed prices up sharply. In Punjab, a 20-kilogram flour bag costs Rs. 1,800, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it now exceeds Rs. 2,500. Bread prices have risen as well, putting ordinary households under financial strain. Inflation affects not only citizens but also bakers, small shopkeepers, and other business groups, forcing many to reduce operations. Several bakeries have cut production, and some small businesses struggle to remain open due to skyrocketing costs.

Political and social circles stress that Shahbaz Sharif, as Chief Minister of Punjab and Prime Minister of Pakistan, must treat all provinces equally. They argue that the political tussle between the federal government and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial government is unfairly affecting the poor. Citizens and analysts alike feel that the Punjab flour ban KP is unjust and threatens the sense of national unity.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government remains largely silent. The Chief Minister continues sit-ins, protests, and political agitation instead of focusing on public welfare. Critics argue this political focus deprives the province of essential services and basic facilities. Punjab’s move is being viewed as a direct challenge to Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and his cabinet, leaving residents at further risk.

Leaders in Takht Bhai have strongly condemned the action. They demand that authorities lift the flour supply ban immediately to reduce public hardship and stabilize prices. Citizens hope for urgent intervention to protect basic food security and prevent further inflation. Experts warn that if the Punjab flour ban in KP continues, it could trigger long-term supply disruptions and worsen the economic conditions in the province.
