Punjab energy minister urges public to observe Earth Hour across province

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Energy Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar has urged citizens to actively participate in Earth Hour on March 28, calling for collective action to promote energy conservation across the province.

The appeal comes as part of a province-wide initiative under the directions of the Chief Minister Punjab, with non-essential lights scheduled to be switched off from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM as a symbolic demonstration of responsible energy use.

Province-wide participation encouraged

The minister said the campaign aims to engage the public, particularly young people, in a global effort to raise awareness about efficient energy consumption. He encouraged households, businesses, and institutions to take part by turning off unnecessary lights during the designated hour.

He noted that Earth Hour serves as more than a symbolic activity, highlighting the importance of adopting sustainable practices in daily life.

Awareness campaign and official support

According to the minister, relevant government departments have been mobilised to promote the initiative through awareness campaigns across Punjab. These efforts are intended to inform citizens about the benefits of reducing energy consumption and its impact on the environment.

Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said energy conservation is increasingly important in addressing both electricity demand and environmental challenges. He added that reducing wastage can contribute to a cleaner environment and support long-term sustainability goals.

He stressed that coordinated efforts by the public and government are necessary to ensure a safer and more sustainable future.
