LAHORE, September 30, 2026: Punjab Energy Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar has directed strict enforcement of electrical safety regulations across public and private installations while announcing steps to make the licensing and renewal process for electrical contractors more transparent and accessible.
Chairing a meeting with licensed electrical contractors, the minister reviewed safety and quality standards for electrical installations, the existing licensing framework and compliance with regulations aimed at preventing electrical accidents.
The meeting discussed safety protocols for the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, measures to reduce accident risks and possible improvements to the licensing mechanism.
Khokhar said the Punjab government would fully implement Chief Minister Punjab’s zero-tolerance policy on electrical safety, stressing that safety requirements must be observed at all public and private electrical installations.
He said there would be no compromise on prescribed safety standards and directed officials to strengthen regular inspection and testing of electrical installations so that potential hazards could be identified and addressed before they result in accidents.
The minister also stressed that installation and repair work should be carried out only by authorised and licensed electrical contractors.
Khokhar said protecting citizens’ lives and property remained a top priority of the provincial government, adding that stronger preventive measures were essential to reduce electrical accidents.
He said the government was working to improve electrical systems, strengthen safety standards and encourage responsible practices across the sector.
Highlighting the role of licensed contractors in the installation, maintenance and improvement of electrical systems, the minister called for a licensing mechanism that was transparent, efficient and easier for qualified professionals to navigate.
He announced that the licence renewal process for electrical contractors would be simplified and made more transparent to prevent qualified and responsible contractors from facing unnecessary difficulties.
The minister also directed Energy Department officials to introduce modern procedures for licensing and inspections, improve record management and establish continuous monitoring of safety standards at electrical installations.
Punjab Energy Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti, senior Energy Department officials and representatives of licensed electrical contractors attended the meeting.
