RAHIM YAR KHAN (Abu Hurara Alvi): Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora attended a ceremony organized under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to distribute relief grants among the Hindu community on the occasion of Diwali.
During the event, cheques worth Rs 15,000 each — totaling Rs 9 million — were distributed among 600 Hindu families in the district.
The ceremony was attended by PML-N MPAs Chaudhry Mahmood Ahmed, Nasreen Riaz Gujjar, former MNA Mian Imtiaz Ahmed, Mian Khalid Shaheen, former MPA Kanji Ram, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Irfan Anwar, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Hanan Khan, Deputy Director Social Welfare Zubia Mudassar, and a large number of PML-N office bearers, workers, and members of the minority community.
Minister Ramesh Singh Arora lit Diwali lamps and cut a cake to mark the occasion. Addressing the participants, he said that the purpose of these grants was to share in the joy of the Hindu community during Diwali and to provide them with government support.
He added that the Punjab government, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, stands with people of all faiths and celebrates every religious festival — including Eid, Baisakhi, Diwali, Holi, and Christmas — as symbols of unity and harmony. “Punjab is a land of tolerance and brotherhood,” he stated, emphasizing that the welfare of minority communities remains one of the government’s top priorities.
The minister also announced that construction, repair, and renovation work had begun on 53 temples, churches, gurdwaras, and other places of worship across the province. He said that a “Special Minority Card” had been introduced by the Chief Minister to extend various facilities, including educational scholarships for talented minority students.
Arora commended the minority community for demonstrating strong national solidarity during the Indo-Pak war and reaffirmed that all minorities enjoy equal rights under the Constitution of Pakistan.
He concluded by congratulating the district administration, especially the Deputy Director of Social Welfare and his team, for successfully organizing the event.
