Punjab Assembly passes resolution seeking ban on PTI founder Imran Khan

The Punjab Assembly has passed a resolution calling on the federal government to consider a ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, citing allegations of actions against state institutions and involvement in political unrest.

The resolution was adopted on Tuesday by a majority vote during a session of the provincial legislature.

Punjab Assembly resolution moved by PML-N lawmaker

The resolution was presented by Pakistan Muslim League-N lawmaker Tahir Pervaiz. It urged authorities to take legal steps against both Imran Khan and his political party, accusing them of promoting instability and making statements deemed harmful to the state.

The resolution by Punjab Assembly also called for action under existing national laws against individuals or groups — whether political or non-political — found involved in activities perceived as threatening to national security.

Lawmakers supporting the measure demanded strict legal proceedings and called for firm punishment for those held responsible for unrest or for facilitating what the resolution described as anti-state conduct.

Azma Bokhari criticises PTI leadership

Separately, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari also criticised the PTI founder while speaking to the media in Lahore. She rejected claims circulating on social media regarding Khan’s health, saying he was in stable condition.

Bokhari also accused PTI leadership of relying on foreign media platforms to advance its narrative and claimed that Khan had attempted to portray himself as a political victim.

Allegations over economic and political conduct

The information minister further alleged that the former ruling party had created economic instability in the past and accused its leadership of double standards while addressing corruption allegations.

She added that, in her view, the political approach of the PTI founder was incompatible with national interests.
