HASSAN ABDAL: The Punjab government has approved a Rs135 million healthcare development programme to upgrade basic health facilities across Hazro tehsil in Attock district, officials said.
The programme aims to improve access to medical services at the community level by modernising six Basic Health Units and one Rural Health Centre. Former provincial minister and District Monitoring Committee member Jahangir Khanzada announced the plan while speaking to reporters at the inauguration of the revamping project at Basic Health Unit Shadi Khan in Hazro.
Khanzada said the initiative was designed to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots level and reduce the need for residents, especially low-income families, to travel long distances for basic treatment.
Six BHUs and one RHC to be upgraded
Under the programme, each Basic Health Unit will be upgraded at a cost of Rs15 million, while Rs45 million has been allocated for renovation and improvement of the Rural Health Centre.
The BHUs included in the project are located in Jatyal, Haroon, Khakwani, Bhangi, Kamra and Shamshabad. The Rural Health Centre at Ghourghushti will also be upgraded under the same programme.
Khanzada said the revamping work would be completed during the next fiscal year.
Focus on rural healthcare access
Khanzada said the project would help expand access to essential health services in remote and underserved areas of Hazro tehsil.
He said the provincial government was working to improve public healthcare infrastructure, service delivery standards and access to quality treatment for citizens.
Responding to questions, he said the Punjab government, under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was prioritising healthcare reforms with a special focus on maternal and child health in rural areas.
During the visit, Khanzada inspected the ongoing construction and development work at BHU Shadi Khan. Officials from the Buildings Department briefed him on the progress of the project.
