Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram addressed a press conference in Peshawar today, highlighting critical concerns regarding the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), electoral irregularities, and political victimization.
Sheikh Waqas Akram stated that the tenure of the Chief Election Commissioner has ended, yet the government continues its policies without addressing the matter. He emphasized that PTI has consistently faced biased treatment under the current Election Commission, which played a central role in the controversial implementation of Form 47. He further pointed out that the Supreme Court’s larger bench decision was disregarded, questioning the credibility of the electoral process.
The PTI leader announced that a formal complaint has been submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council against the Chief Election Commissioner. The complaint, filed by PTI leader Omar Ayub, contains detailed evidence of electoral misconduct, including the deliberate targeting of PTI’s founder and the issue of reserved seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sheikh Waqas Akram criticized the pre-election rigging, stating that PTI was unfairly stripped of its electoral symbol, creating an uneven playing field. He reiterated that, despite all hurdles, PTI’s supporters remained committed and voted in favor of the party’s founder.
Discussing political victimization, he highlighted the difficulties PTI workers and supporters face, including arrests and harassment. He condemned the government’s actions, stating that even those bringing food to detained workers were being arrested, and legal cases were continuously filed against PTI members.
Sheikh Waqas Akram urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take immediate notice of these injustices and ensure the rule of law. He reaffirmed that PTI’s founder remains committed to the country’s future and democratic principles.
