SUJAWAL, Jan 7 — The Progressive Lawyers Forum secured major positions in the annual elections of the District Bar Association Sujawal, winning the posts of president, general secretary, and treasurer after a closely contested vote against the Independent Lawyers Group.
A total of 54 members cast ballots for the 2026‑27 term. Qadir Khaskheli of the Progressive Lawyers Forum was elected president with 26 votes, narrowly defeating Ayaz Nazar Ali Khowaja of the Independent Lawyers Group, who received 24. Syed Ali Imran Shah won the general secretary’s seat with 33 votes, defeating Irfan Gul Memon by a margin of 14. Ali Raza Jat prevailed over Dewan Sunny Khanna to claim the treasurer’s position.
In a notable outcome, contests for vice president and joint secretary ended in a tie, with candidates from both groups securing 26 votes each. The returning officer had yet to announce a decision on those seats at the time of reporting.
Acting president Sajad Ali Khowaja welcomed the smooth conduct of the elections, describing the transition of authority as a democratic process. Advocate Ayaz Nazar Ali Khowaja, who contested the presidency from the Independent Lawyers Group, expressed gratitude to supporters and acknowledged the backing his group received during the campaign.
The results highlight the competitive nature of the Sujawal bar elections, where both groups remain influential and the tied positions underscore the balance of support among members.
