Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that petrol and diesel prices will remain unchanged in the country.
Addressing the nation, the prime minister said he was advised to increase petrol prices by Rs95 and diesel by Rs203 per litre, but he rejected the proposal.
He stated that the federal government has decided to bear an additional burden of Rs56 billion this week to keep prices stable.
Shehbaz Sharif said that based on current calculations, petrol should have been priced at Rs544 per litre, but the government is providing it at Rs322, while diesel should have been Rs790 per litre but is being sold at Rs335.

He emphasized that protecting the public from economic hardship is the government’s top priority, adding that fuel prices have doubled globally, but efforts are being made to shield citizens from the full impact.
The prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace, saying the country is actively engaged on multiple fronts to prevent conflict in the region.
He added that he has held detailed discussions with leaders of Iran and Gulf countries, describing Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts as both an international responsibility and a moral duty.
Shehbaz Sharif further said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar is working diligently, while Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is also playing a key role in these efforts.
