ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari will undertake an official visit to the United Arab Emirates from January 26 to 29 to hold talks with the UAE leadership on strengthening bilateral cooperation across key sectors, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

According to an official curtain raiser issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson, the president will be accompanied by a high-level delegation and is scheduled to hold meetings covering the full spectrum of Pakistan-UAE relations, with a particular focus on trade and economic partnership, defence and security cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

Focus on economic partnership and regional issues

The Foreign Office said the discussions will also include regional and international developments of mutual interest, reflecting the two countries’ coordination on broader geopolitical and economic matters.

The visit comes shortly after a recent visit by the UAE president to Pakistan, and is being described by officials as a continuation of high-level engagement aimed at deepening strategic cooperation between the two sides.

Continuation of high-level engagements

The Foreign Office noted that the upcoming visit underscores the longstanding and close ties between Pakistan and the UAE, and reaffirms the shared commitment to translating their traditional friendship into a more substantive and mutually beneficial partnership.

Pakistan and the UAE maintain close cooperation in trade, investment, labour mobility and security, with the UAE hosting a large Pakistani expatriate community and remaining a key economic partner for Islamabad.
