Mirpur – President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, reaffirmed his lifelong dedication to the Kashmir freedom movement, declaring that the struggle for the complete liberation of Indian-occupied Kashmir remains the central pillar of his political journey. Addressing a massive public gathering organized as an Eid Milan Party in his honor at Quaid-e-Azam Stadium, Mirpur, the President emphasized that the international community must recognize the decades-long sacrifices of the Kashmiri people.
“My recent visits to the United Kingdom and the United States were aimed at highlighting the Kashmir issue on global platforms. I spoke in British and American legislative forums, shedding light on the brutal human rights violations committed by the Modi-led Indian government in occupied Kashmir—atrocities that history will remember as a dark chapter,” said President Chaudhry.
He stated that despite India’s use of extreme force and suppression tactics, the spirit of resistance among Kashmiris has only grown stronger. “Entire families have sacrificed across three generations, and the younger generation remains equally prepared to fight for freedom. God willing, Kashmir will soon be free from Indian occupation,” he declared.
Major Developmental Announcements for Mirpur
President Chaudhry also provided updates on significant development projects in the Mirpur region:
The construction of the Rathua Haryam Bridge is progressing swiftly and will soon be open to the public, significantly easing transportation for residents of Mirpur, Kotli, Dadyal, and Chakswari.
He inaugurated Mirpur’s first-ever Parking Plaza, fulfilling a key promise made during his election campaign.
The longstanding issue of sub-family plot allotments in New City Mirpur is nearing resolution, with allotment letters expected to be distributed soon.
He reiterated his demand for the establishment of an international airport in Mirpur, stating that the movement has gained momentum both locally and internationally. “Even 20 members of the UK Parliament have endorsed this demand through a formal letter,” he added, while expressing support for a protest scheduled in the UK on April 13 in favor of the airport.
The President also called for the immediate completion of the Mirpur–Muzaffarabad–Mansehra Motorway under the CPEC initiative and announced plans for the establishment of a CPEC Business Centre in Mirpur to attract overseas investment and boost economic growth.
President Chaudhry highlighted past achievements, including road expansion, the removal of encroachments, the establishment of the General Bus Stand and Vegetable Market, and the founding of Mian Muhammad Bakhsh Library. He assured the public that all pending developmental issues in Mirpur will be resolved on a priority basis. The construction of Allama Iqbal Road and several key roads in various sectors has been completed, with the remainder nearing finalization.
Massive Public Turnout
The Eid Milan gathering turned into a large-scale public rally with thousands of enthusiastic attendees. Citizens gathered from various areas including New City, Khari, Rathua, Thothal, F-1, F-2, and others. Roads around the stadium experienced heavy traffic congestion, and the stadium itself was filled beyond capacity. People even climbed nearby rooftops to catch a glimpse of their leader.
President Chaudhry was welcomed with chants such as “Barrister Sultan Zindabad,” “True Voice of Kashmiris,” and “Our Life, Our Soul—Barrister Sultan,” echoing across Mirpur. He was showered with petals and adorned with floral garlands as the crowd greeted him with emotional fervor.
Condemnation of Israeli Aggression in Gaza
The President also strongly condemned the renewed aggression by Israeli forces in Gaza. “We denounce Israel’s indiscriminate bombings of civilian populations in blatant violation of international humanitarian law. Thousands of innocent Palestinians—including women, children, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers—have been killed,” he said, urging the United Nations, OIC, and the international community to take immediate action to halt Israeli hostilities.
Acknowledgment of Public Support
In conclusion, President Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Mirpur for their unwavering support throughout his political career. “Whether in government or opposition, the people of Mirpur have always stood by me. That is why I’ve been elected nine times as a member of the Legislative Assembly—an honor unmatched by any other politician in Azad Kashmir or Pakistan,” he stated. He also recalled serving five years as Prime Minister, five years as Leader of the Opposition, and now as the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, attributing his political success to the blessings of God and the trust of the people of Mirpur.
