Islamabad: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) marked 60 years of Fundamental Principles on Tuesday, reaffirming its commitment to humanity, neutrality, and impartiality in all humanitarian work across Pakistan.

The seven Fundamental Principles — Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality — were adopted in 1965. They form the moral foundation of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and continue to guide humanitarian action worldwide.

Mrs. Farzhana Naek, Chairperson of PRCS, said these principles are the “essence of PRCS’s identity and the strength behind its mission.” Since 1947, the organization has served people affected by disasters, conflicts, and displacement, ensuring that help reaches everyone without discrimination.

She said the Fundamental Principles remain the guiding compass for PRCS staff and volunteers, especially as humanitarian challenges rise. “Our volunteers serve with compassion, dignity, and neutrality,” she said. “Their tireless commitment keeps the spirit of humanity alive.”

Mrs. Naek also called on governments, institutions, and communities to respect and protect humanitarian principles. She stressed that only by preserving neutrality and independence can humanitarian aid continue to reach those in need, regardless of political or regional divides.

For more than seven decades, PRCS has worked in line with the Fundamental Principles. It has delivered emergency relief, health care, and community resilience programs across Pakistan. The Society operates through a strong nationwide network of branches and thousands of volunteers. Together, they provide life-saving support to vulnerable communities in every province.

The commemoration of 60 years of Fundamental Principles reflects PRCS’s lasting commitment to humanity and compassion. It reaffirms the pledge to ensure that help reaches those who need it most — wherever and whenever disaster strikes.
