PRCS holds humanitarian forum in Islamabad to mark World Red Cross Red Crescent Day

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) organized a humanitarian forum at its National Headquarters in Islamabad to mark World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day under the global theme “United in Humanity.”

The event brought together humanitarian leaders, diplomats, government officials, representatives of international organizations, volunteers and development partners to discuss humanitarian cooperation, disaster response and support for vulnerable communities across Pakistan.

The forum was attended by PRCS Chairperson Farzhana Naek and United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya, along with representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, German Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross and Turkish Red Crescent.

An interactive session titled “Partnerships for Humanity” focused on strengthening coordination among humanitarian organizations in response to climate-related disasters, emergencies and displacement challenges.

Speaking at the forum, Mohamed Yahya highlighted growing humanitarian pressures caused by climate change, disasters and global funding constraints. He described PRCS as an example of effective community-based humanitarian response and praised volunteers for their role during emergencies.

PRCS Chairperson Farzhana Naek said the organization continued to expand community-focused programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable populations across the country. She also emphasized the importance of partnerships and volunteer engagement in humanitarian operations.

Focus on resilience and humanitarian cooperation

In a video message, IFRC Regional Director for Asia Pacific Alexander Matheou acknowledged PRCS efforts in disaster response and institutional development. IFRC Head of Delegation in Pakistan Andreas von Weissenberg also reaffirmed continued support for PRCS programmes.

Head of Delegation of the ICRC in Pakistan Christoph Sutter spoke about increasing humanitarian crises globally and highlighted ongoing cooperation between ICRC and PRCS in Pakistan.

Earlier, PRCS Secretary General Muhammad Abaidullah Khan presented an overview of PRCS humanitarian operations, disaster response activities, health services and climate resilience programmes under the theme “From Response to Resilience.”

The event also featured a documentary on PRCS relief operations and a photo exhibition showcasing the history and humanitarian work of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in Pakistan.
