SWAT: A husband allegedly shot and killed a police constable and critically injured his wife in the name of honor in the Bashigram area of Bahrain Tehsil in Swat district. police confirmed.
According to SHO Madyan police station, Zahid Shah, the suspect identified as Afzal allegedly opened fire on Constable Nizamuddin near his house in the village of Bishigram while he was riding his motorcycle. Nizam died on the spot.
The suspect’s wife, Mst (N), sustained serious injuries from gunfire and axe wounds. She was initially taken to a local hospital in Madyan and later shifted to the Saidu Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Following the incident, a case was registered at Madyan police station on the complaint of the slain personnel’s father, Fazal Rabi.
Police have launched a search operation to arrest the suspect, who fled the scene after the attack.
This marks the third reported case of so-called honour-based violence in Swat district within the past week. In earlier incidents, a son allegedly killed his mother at the Kabal Judicial Complex, while a father-in-law shot dead his daughter-in-law in Shah Dherai.
Local activists and rights groups have raised concerns over the rising number of such killings in the region, calling for urgent legal and social action.
