MUMBAI: Police investigating the alleged threat sent to Bollywood actor Aamir Khan have traced the audio message to a Sweden-based Virtual Private Network (VPN), though the sender’s actual location remains unknown.

According to Indian media reports, investigators found that the threatening audio message was routed through a VPN server located in Sweden, making it difficult to identify the person behind it. Authorities believe the sender also used the Tor browser to conceal their identity and location.

Police sources said the message is being examined for possible links to individuals claiming association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, investigators have not publicly confirmed the authenticity of those claims, and the inquiry is ongoing.

Officials said cyber experts have traced the initial IP address to the Sweden-based VPN, but the original source of the message has not yet been identified because of the anonymity tools allegedly used by the sender.

No First Information Report (FIR) has been registered so far, as neither Aamir Khan nor his representatives have filed a formal complaint with Mumbai Police. Authorities have said the case remains under verification while efforts continue to establish the sender’s identity.

The alleged threat first surfaced on July 18 through a social media post and a voice note from individuals claiming links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police have been examining both the social media content and the audio recording since then.
