UPPER DIR: Security forces and local residents have launched a joint operation in Dobando, Salam Kot, Brikot, and Hattan Dara areas of Upper Dir near the Pak–Afghan border, killing seven terrorists so far, according to police.

District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Muhammad Bilal confirmed that four bodies of terrorists have been recovered and shifted to DHQ Dir, including one reportedly carrying an Afghan National Army card. Police believe more bodies may be recovered but said the rugged terrain and dense forests are hampering the search.

The operation entered its second day on Sunday, involving police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Rapid Response Force (RRF), and armed local residents.

Two civilians — Yar Muhammad of Salam Kot and Said Rehman of Bagh Kaly — were martyred during the crossfire, while eight police personnel sustained injuries. Their funeral prayers were offered at Police Lines Dir.

The operation was launched in response to an August 14 terrorist attack in which three policemen were martyred and six others injured.

DPO Bilal praised the active support of locals, saying their bravery and cooperation have been crucial in the fight. He vowed to continue the operation until terrorism is completely eliminated from the region.
