Islamabad, Pakistan: The Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) has successfully concluded a three-day intensive drama and theatre training program aimed at nurturing creative expression and professional skills among emerging performers and theatre practitioners.
The workshop was facilitated by renowned theatre expert and arts educator Dr. Waqar Azim and brought together 27 theatre enthusiasts and professionals. The sessions combined theoretical learning with practical training in acting, voice, and performance techniques.
The opening day focused on the evolution of art, the historical development of theatre, and the fundamentals of acting. Participants engaged in practical exercises involving body movement, posture, facial expressions, and instinctive human responses, highlighting the role of physical expression in performance before spoken dialogue.

On the second day, emphasis was placed on voice training, covering vocal production, control, and effective usage. Participants were trained in voice projection, clarity, pronunciation, and the distinct vocal requirements of stage theatre, television drama, film, and radio.
The final day centered on imagination and creativity, where participants explored how actors and directors conceptualize scenes and translate ideas into performance through voice, movement, expressions, lighting, sound, makeup, and staging. Basic principles of directing and production were also discussed.
At the closing ceremony, certificates were distributed among the participants. Senior theatre and film producer Asma Butt, who attended as chief guest, appreciated PNCA’s efforts and expressed hope that such professional training initiatives would continue.
Director Performing Arts Samee Ullah Baloch presented a poem during the ceremony, while Director General PNCA Ayub Jamali thanked the participants and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting arts education and creative development.
Sharing his experience, participant Syed Umer Gardezi described the workshop as a valuable and inspiring learning opportunity, stating that the sessions enhanced participants’ understanding of theatre by linking artistic practice with human evolution, social awareness, and creative thinking.
