Rawalpindi: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) hosted an international workshop on “Renewable Energy Applications for Modern Sustainable Agriculture,” bringing together national and international experts to explore how clean energy technologies can strengthen agricultural productivity and climate resilience.
The event was organised by the Department of Energy Systems Engineering, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering & Technology, and focused on integrating renewable energy solutions into farming systems. Participants included academics, researchers, students and representatives from research organisations.

Ms Yasmin Paracha, Director of DAAD Islamabad, attended as chief guest, while Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman presided over the session.
Addressing the workshop, Prof Dr Qamar-uz-Zaman said PMAS-AAUR has consistently prioritised research-driven innovation to address contemporary agricultural challenges. He noted that advancing sustainability and strengthening international collaboration remain central to the university’s mission.
He said the institution aims to develop professionals capable of transforming Pakistan’s agriculture through renewable energy and smart farming technologies, adding that international workshops provide platforms for knowledge exchange and practical learning.
Ms Yasmin Paracha highlighted the importance of renewable energy integration in agriculture, describing it as both an environmental and economic necessity. She emphasised strengthening academic linkages and capacity-building initiatives to equip engineers and scientists with applied knowledge.
The workshop featured presentations on solar-powered irrigation, biogas and biomass applications, energy-efficient greenhouse systems and smart energy management in precision agriculture. Speakers underlined the connection between renewable energy adoption and food security, particularly in rural areas.
At the conclusion of the event, shields and souvenirs were presented to the chief guest and speakers in recognition of their participation. The workshop drew attendance from deans, directors, faculty members and students, reflecting institutional engagement with sustainable agricultural development.
