PMAS-AAUR, SBP BSC Rawalpindi sign landmark MoU to boost agricultural financing and climate-smart growth

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) and the State Bank of Pakistan, SBP Banking Services Corporation (BSC) Rawalpindi, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration in agricultural financing, financial inclusion, and climate-smart development across the Potohar region and beyond.

MoU Ceremony Highlights Key Leadership and Institutional Roles

The MoU signing ceremony took place at PMAS-AAUR, where the agreement was formally signed by Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, Vice Chancellor PMAS-AAUR, and Mr. Rizwan Khaleel Shamsi, Chief Manager SBP BSC Rawalpindi. Dr. Farida Faisal, Director of the University Institute of Management Sciences (UIMS), represented the University as the chief coordinator and host of the event.

Strengthening Agricultural Financing and Financial Inclusion

Speaking at the ceremony, representatives from both institutions emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between academia, financial institutions, policymakers, and extension networks to empower farming communities, youth and women entrepreneurs. They underscored the role of such collaborations in promoting sustainable agricultural growth and financial literacy in rural areas.

Focus on Climate-Smart Agriculture and Digital Onboarding

Under the MoU, both organizations will collaborate on key initiatives including agricultural financing, digital onboarding, and climate-smart agricultural practices. The partnership also envisions joint seminars, conferences, field days, and awareness campaigns, along with capacity-building programs for farmers, students, and local communities.

Joint Programs for Farmers, Youth, and Women Entrepreneurs

Furthermore, the agreement aims to promote women’s entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, support joint research and evidence-based policy studies, and offer internship and attachment opportunities for PMAS-AAUR students at SBP BSC Rawalpindi.

This strategic collaboration represents a significant milestone in driving inclusive growth, financial empowerment, and climate resilience in the Potohar region paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural future in Pakistan.
