Islamabad — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the need to further strengthen and expand cooperation between Pakistan and Myanmar in key areas including trade, economic engagement, education, culture, capacity-building, and people-to-people exchanges.
The remarks were made during a courtesy call by Than Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, who is on an official visit to Pakistan.
Welcoming the visiting dignitary, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its longstanding relations with Myanmar. He particularly appreciated Myanmar’s cooperation in combating human trafficking and its support for Pakistan’s engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The Myanmar foreign minister thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and conveyed greetings and best wishes from Myanmar’s leadership. He expressed his country’s desire to broaden bilateral ties with Pakistan in areas of mutual interest.
The Myanmar side also expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s timely assistance following the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025, describing it as a gesture of solidarity and friendship.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi were also present during the meeting.
Officials said the engagement reflected the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and regional cooperation.
