PM Shehbaz urges immediate de-escalation in call with Saudi Crown Prince

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East during a telephone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia and emphasized the need for de-escalation and a return to stability, highlighting the importance of dialogue to resolve ongoing conflicts.

The prime minister also condemned recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the Kingdom and its people. He acknowledged the Saudi leadership’s restraint during the crisis and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to stand by Saudi Arabia.

During the call, Shehbaz Sharif briefed the Crown Prince on Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach efforts aimed at promoting dialogue among key stakeholders. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination at all levels.

Focus on regional stability

The conversation comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following recent military exchanges involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Pakistan has been actively engaging with regional partners, including Turkey and Egypt, to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

Officials said Pakistan continues to advocate for peaceful resolution through dialogue and has offered to facilitate talks between the United States and Iran.

In a separate message, the prime minister also conveyed Eidul Fitr greetings to Saudi leadership and reiterated the importance of unity within the Muslim world during a period of heightened uncertainty.
