Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors and strategic technology partners during a meeting with a delegation from Ericsson in Islamabad.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s House, focused on strengthening cooperation in next-generation digital connectivity, which the government views as critical for economic growth, productivity, and improved public service delivery.
The Ericsson delegation was led by Patrick Johansson, President and Head of Market Area Europe, Middle East and Africa at the company. The prime minister welcomed the delegation and acknowledged Ericsson’s more than six decades-long presence in Pakistan, appreciating its role in the development of the country’s telecommunications sector.

During the discussion, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s interest in learning from Ericsson’s global experience in advanced network technologies, including 5G, while ensuring that digital infrastructure remains secure, resilient, and aligned with national requirements.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in digital skills development, financial inclusion, and the expansion of cashless payment systems. The use of technology to strengthen disaster preparedness and institutional resilience was another key area of focus.
The Ericsson delegation welcomed Pakistan’s efforts to upgrade its information technology infrastructure and noted progress toward the 5G spectrum auction. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi, and senior government officials were also present at the meeting.
