PM calls for stronger federal-provincial cooperation in KP

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday and emphasized the need for close cooperation between the federal and provincial governments to ensure development, security, and prosperity for the people of the province.

The Prime Minister assured full federal support, within its constitutional mandate, for development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He highlighted infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment generation as priority areas, stressing that coordinated efforts are essential to improve public welfare.

Sharif underscored that federal-provincial collaboration is vital for maintaining law and order in the province. He urged the provincial government to strengthen its institutions to effectively counter terrorism, adding that both governments would continue joint efforts to eradicate militancy.

He noted that ensuring peace, stability, and welfare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a constitutional responsibility of the provincial government, which is empowered to take initiatives in health and education. Concrete steps, he said, must be taken to deliver meaningful benefits to citizens.

Reaffirming the federal government’s commitment, the Prime Minister described Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as an important federating unit and pledged continued support for its prosperity. He emphasized that close coordination, consultation, and collaboration between the federation and provinces are essential for national unity, stability, and sustainable growth.
