ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to introduce wide-ranging reforms at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), with the Ministry of Health preparing a transformation plan on the prime minister’s directives and in consultation with experts.
According to sources, the reforms will cover PIMS’s administrative, clinical and service-related functions. Implementation of the transformation plan is expected to begin soon, with a three-month target set for completing the reform process.
Two expert committees will also be formed to support the implementation of the plan and oversee key areas of the transformation.
According to PIMS sources, the plan aims to strengthen patient safety and care while ensuring compliance with MSDS standards. Risk management and patient care have been identified as key components of the proposed reforms.
The transformation plan also includes measures for infection prevention and control, improvement of service delivery standards and reforms in the hospital’s patient-care system.
A more effective safety mechanism will be developed to deal with emergencies, while digital systems will be introduced for both hospital administration and patients.
Sources said decisions regarding PIMS’s future administrative structure will be based on the report of a special committee. The committee was constituted on the prime minister’s directives to examine and recommend the future direction of the hospital.
