ISLAMABAD, June 22, 2026: Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences has improved its global standing in the latest QS World University Rankings, moving up to 560th position from the 721–730 band in the previous edition.

The improvement places PIEAS among Pakistan’s leading higher education institutions and makes it the third-highest-ranked university in the country, according to the ranking update. The university functions under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission and is known for engineering, applied sciences and research.

PIEAS said the latest ranking reflects its focus on quality education, research, innovation and the development of skilled professionals in engineering and applied sciences.

The institute’s faculty, research environment and infrastructure have contributed to its academic profile. PIEAS also aims to meet national and regional demand for highly trained professionals while supporting education, research and development.

The university has previously been ranked No. 1 in Engineering and Technology by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan in all three rankings conducted in 2006, 2012 and 2013.

The QS World University Rankings are published annually by Quacquarelli Symonds and assess universities through indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, research impact, faculty-to-student ratio and internationalisation.

The latest improvement marks a significant recovery for PIEAS in the global ranking table and strengthens its position among Pakistan’s top-ranked universities.
