ISLAMABAD — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will restart direct flights from Islamabad to London on March 29, restoring one of its flagship international routes after a six‑year suspension. The national carrier will operate four weekly services into Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4.
Return to a Flagship Route
London has long been one of PIA’s most popular destinations, serving Pakistan’s diaspora and business travelers. The airline emphasized that the resumption of flights marks a major milestone in reconnecting Pakistan with the UK’s busiest hub.
Background of Suspension
PIA flights to the United Kingdom were halted in 2020 after European and UK regulators imposed restrictions following the Karachi air crash and subsequent concerns over pilot licensing and safety oversight. The suspension forced passengers to rely on foreign carriers for direct travel between Pakistan and the UK.
Manchester Relaunch as First Step
In October 2025, PIA resumed operations to Manchester after more than five years, with a ceremony at Islamabad International Airport attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, aviation officials, and PIA management. The Manchester relaunch paved the way for the London restart.
Expansion to Heathrow
The new London schedule includes four weekly flights from Islamabad, complementing the three weekly services already operating to Manchester. Industry analysts view the return to Heathrow as both commercial and symbolic, underscoring PIA’s ambition to re‑establish itself on high‑yield routes and rebuild trust in its operations.
Outlook for UK Operations
With seven weekly flights across Manchester and London, PIA is positioning the United Kingdom as a cornerstone of its international recovery strategy. The carrier expects strong demand as direct connectivity resumes, restoring a vital link for Pakistan’s diaspora and strengthening trade and travel ties between the two countries.
