KARACHI, September 27 — Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has restricted cabin crew members to carrying no more than one packet of cigarettes while on flying duty, warning that violations could lead to suspension and removal from flight duties.
According to a circular issued by the airline, each cabin crew member will be permitted to carry a maximum of 20 cigarettes, equivalent to one packet, while travelling on duty.
The airline warned that carrying more than the permitted quantity would result in strict disciplinary action.
Under the new instructions, cabin crew found violating the restriction could be suspended and taken off flying duties.
Crew to be briefed before departure
PIA management has directed relevant officials to inform cabin crew about the restriction during pre-departure briefings and ensure strict compliance with the new instructions.
The directive follows a recent incident involving crew members operating a flight from Multan to Jeddah.
According to sources, five cabin crew members were allegedly found carrying a large number of cigarette packets a few days ago.
An investigation involving the five crew members is currently underway within PIA’s human resources department, according to the sources.
The airline has instructed staff to comply fully with the newly issued directive.
