PESHAWAR: A three-day training workshop was held in Peshawar to enhance the capacity of paralegal volunteers working to improve women’s access to justice, organisers said.
The training, organised by Shirkat Gah with support from UN Women, brought together 25 volunteers affiliated with the Area Support Network Peshawar. The initiative focused on equipping participants with practical skills to address legal and social challenges faced by women at the community level.
Focus on legal awareness and response strategies
Sessions covered key topics including gender-based violence, domestic abuse, prevention mechanisms, and relevant legal frameworks. Participants were also briefed on the role of police and institutions in responding to such cases.
The training included practical exercises aimed at helping volunteers identify local challenges and develop effective strategies to support victims and improve access to legal remedies.
Emphasis on community awareness
Speaking at the closing session, Shirkat Gah Programme Coordinator Fauzia Ali said that while laws exist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to protect women’s rights, awareness at the community level remains limited.
She highlighted the importance of trained paralegal volunteers in providing timely legal guidance and support to women facing difficulties.
Participants described the workshop as useful and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting women’s rights and facilitating access to justice within their communities.
