PESHAWAR: A report by the Capital Metropolitan Government Peshawar has revealed that the private school building that collapsed in the Dera Colony area on October 15 was originally constructed as a residential building and was not designed to serve as a school.

According to the report, the roof of the building’s first floor was temporary and poorly constructed. It consisted of bricks placed over wooden planks and was unable to withstand the combined weight of children and furniture, eventually causing the roof to collapse.

The report stated that no building plan for the structure was available in the records of the Capital Metropolitan Government.

The building was constructed in 2011 under the jurisdiction of Town-4 of the then Tehsil Municipal Administration.

According to the findings, the building did not appear visibly dangerous from the outside, which is why the Planning Control Inspector did not report it.

The report further stated that the regulation, supervision and monitoring of private schools falls under the responsibility of the Private Schools Regulatory Authority.

The incident occurred on October 15 in Peshawar’s Dera Colony, where the collapse of the private school building resulted in the deaths of 34 children and a female teacher.
