Peshawar: The Civil Court Peshawar has suspended a notification issued by the University of Peshawar declaring a journalism student’s admission invalid and has allowed him to appear in the upcoming seventh-semester examinations.
The order provides interim relief after the university cancelled the admission nearly a year after it was formally approved, citing an administrative error.
According to court proceedings, the student was granted admission to the fifth semester in the Department of Journalism on October 1, 2024, following a recommendation from the Peshawar Press Club. The student had disclosed his academic position and marks at the time of application, after which the university issued a fee challan and formally approved the admission.
However, on October 28, 2025, the University of Peshawar issued a notification cancelling the admission, stating that a mistake had been made during the enrollment process. Challenging the decision, the student approached the Civil Court Peshawar for legal relief.

After hearing preliminary arguments, the court suspended the university’s notification dated October 28, 2025, and allowed the student to continue his studies by appearing in the seventh-semester examinations. The court also directed the university administration to submit its reply by February 9.
The student told the court that he had successfully completed the fifth and sixth semesters and that his admission had been approved after due verification by the then Director Admissions. He argued that the delayed cancellation caused him mental stress and academic uncertainty.

Terming education a fundamental right, the student expressed confidence in the judicial process and welcomed the interim relief granted by the court, saying he hoped the matter would be resolved on merit.
