Timergara (Rahmat Ullah Swati) – A province-wide PESCO employee protest erupted in Timergara under the banner of the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Union. Employees gathered to demand the reversal of recent decisions by the PESCO Board of Directors, which they described as unjust and harmful to their rights.
Union leaders, including Division Chairman Fahmeed Iqbal, Chairman Hazrat Faqir, Chairman Nasruddin, and Divisional Secretary Malik Nasrullah, addressed the crowd. They criticized the decision to award only 50% bonuses to PESCO employees, unlike other companies. Moreover, they condemned cuts to performance allowances, marriage grants, and scholarships.
The protest also highlighted broader concerns. Leaders demanded reforms in the service structure for lump-sum employees and opposed privatization efforts. They called for lifting the recruitment ban and resolving long-pending inquiries. Additionally, they rejected forced duty exceeding eight hours, citing violations of national and international labor laws.
Another major grievance involved impractical directives, such as requiring meter readers to collect ID cards and mobile numbers from consumers. Union representatives insisted these orders must be withdrawn immediately.
To escalate their demands, the union announced province-wide sit-ins at all circle and divisional headquarters. The largest demonstration will take place at PESCO Headquarters, WAPDA House in Peshawar. Leaders urged all employees to participate actively in the PESCO employee protest and upcoming sit-ins.
This growing PESCO employee protest reflects widespread unrest and a unified call for fair treatment, labor rights, and institutional accountability across the region.
