ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has rejected social media claims that a Pakistan Army officer died of a heart attack during the Pakistan-Sri Lanka cricket match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, clarifying that the deceased was an employee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) who died from electrocution in an incident unrelated to the match.
In a fact-check statement, the ministry said the individual was neither present at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the match nor involved in the event.
According to the ministry, the PCB employee suffered an electric shock, after which his family contacted Rescue 1122. He was subsequently shifted to a local hospital for medical assistance.
The ministry stated that hospital records identified the cause of death as electrocution, contradicting circulating claims that a Pakistan Army officer had suffered a fatal heart attack during the cricket match.
It further clarified that the deceased’s employment with the PCB did not establish any connection between the incident and the Pakistan-Sri Lanka fixture.
The ministry said further inquiry into the incident would proceed in accordance with established procedures.
Describing the claims linking the death to the cricket match as misleading, the ministry urged the public to verify information through credible sources before sharing unsubstantiated reports on social media.
The clarification was issued through the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s official fact-check account on X.
