Paresh Rawal Explains Why He Said No to OMG 2

Veteran Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal has revealed why he chose not to be part of OMG 2, saying the final version of the film had moved away from the original concept he had developed with director and writer Amit Rai.

In a recent interview, Rawal said the project was initially conceived as an independent film focused on sex education rather than a sequel to the 2012 hit OMG – Oh My God! He explained that creative differences ultimately led him to step away from the production.

Original Story Was Not Planned as OMG 2

According to Rawal, the original story revolved around a young boy whose life is disrupted after an intimate video is leaked on social media. The plot followed the boy’s father as he sought justice while addressing issues surrounding sex education in a sensitive and informative way.

Rawal said the story required a mentor figure to guide the father, but not a divine character. He noted that the first OMG featured God because the legal case in that film was directly against God, whereas the new story did not require the same narrative approach.

He added that renowned sexologist Dr. Prakash Kothari was brought on board to help ensure the film remained educational, engaging, and free of vulgarity.

Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn Were Approached

Rawal revealed that Salman Khan and later Ajay Devgn were initially approached for the project. However, both actors reportedly declined because of the film’s unconventional subject matter.

He clarified that Akshay Kumar was not part of the original discussions, as the project had not yet been envisioned as OMG 2.

Why Rawal Walked Away

According to Rawal, director Amit Rai later informed him that Akshay Kumar was interested in the project, but the script had begun carrying the working title OMG 2.

Rawal said he repeatedly advised the filmmakers not to turn the project into a franchise sequel because it was fundamentally a different story. However, the film ultimately evolved into OMG 2, with Akshay Kumar once again portraying a divine character.

The actor added that Akshay Kumar personally tried to convince him to join the film, but he declined because reintroducing God’s character was not part of his original creative vision.

Released in 2023, OMG 2 starred Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role alongside Yami Gautam, while Akshay Kumar played a divine messenger and also produced the film under his production banner.
