ISLAMABAD, September 27 — The State of Palestine’s official social media account has highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks on Palestinian children during his address to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), drawing attention to Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people.
The Palestinian account shared an excerpt from the prime minister’s address in which he spoke about the suffering of Palestinian civilians, particularly children, women and the elderly, amid the continuing conflict.
During his speech, Shehbaz recalled the story of Hind Rajab, the Palestinian girl whose death he had highlighted during his UNGA address last year.
This year, the prime minister drew attention to eight-year-old Wafaa Akila, saying what should have been her first day at school instead became the last day of her life.
“Does not a child born in Gaza deserve the same life and the same future and the same dream as a child anywhere else in the world?” Shehbaz asked during his address.
The prime minister said the tragedies of Hind Rajab, Wafaa Akila and countless other Palestinians would remain a lasting reminder of what he described as the international community’s collective silence and failure to act.
Palestine’s official account highlighting the remarks underscored Pakistan’s continued diplomatic advocacy for Palestinian rights at major international forums.
Pakistan has repeatedly called for the protection of Palestinian civilians and has maintained its support for Palestinian statehood and a two-state solution in accordance with relevant international resolutions.
During his UNGA address, Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and called international attention to the humanitarian consequences of the conflict, with particular emphasis on its impact on children.
