A young wicketkeeper-batter named Adam Gilchrist has become the talk of Pakistani school cricket after scoring a brilliant century, drawing attention from cricket fans and international media.
The left-handed opener, whose name matches that of legendary former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, has also gone viral on social media following his impressive performance.
Representing Kamran Public School, the young cricketer scored 117 runs off 108 balls against Happy Palace Grammar School, Karachi, in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Talent Hunt Programme for the Under-17 School Cricket Championship.
Batting as an opener, Adam spent 145 minutes at the crease and struck 11 boundaries during his outstanding innings.
His century helped Kamran Public School post an imposing total of 297 runs for four wickets in the allotted 40 overs. The team went on to win the match by a commanding margin of 172 runs.
The championship features young cricketers born on or after September 1, 2009, providing a competitive platform for emerging school-level talent.
Interestingly, the young batter’s name has a story of its own. His mother chose the name Adam, while his father added Gilchrist because of his passion for cricket and admiration for the former Australian star.
Despite the resemblance in names, the youngster has his own cricketing ambitions. He has identified Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara as his favourite cricketer and says he hopes to follow in his footsteps.
Adam also praised the PCB’s talent hunt programme for creating opportunities for players in the Under-15 and Under-17 age groups.
His impressive century has brought him into the spotlight and highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s emerging school cricket talent.
