The Embassy of Pakistan in Baku commemorated Pakistan’s Independence Day with a ceremony at the Chancery, bringing together members of the Pakistani community, Azerbaijani officials, academics, students, media representatives and other guests.
The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony. Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were also read out on the occasion.
Ambassador Highlights Pakistan-Azerbaijan Ties
Addressing the gathering, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Qasim Mohiuddin paid tribute to the vision and founding principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
The ambassador highlighted the government’s initiatives and said Pakistan had made progress across various sectors. He also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to peace in the region and beyond, saying the country continues to earn international respect through its efforts toward regional stability.
Ambassador Mohiuddin also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, describing the ties between the two countries as rooted in mutual trust, shared values and common historical and cultural links.
Azerbaijani Students Speak in Urdu
The ceremony also reflected the cultural connections between the two countries. Rovshan Shiranxali, an Azerbaijani Urdu scholar, and Nazrin Shahgeldiyeva, a student at Baku State University, delivered speeches in Urdu focusing on the contributions and achievements of Pakistan’s founding figures.
Their participation highlighted the cultural affinity and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by members of the Pakistani community, dignitaries, academics, students, media representatives and Azerbaijani friends.
