Pakistan’s first free breast cancer screening center has officially opened its doors at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), marking a major step forward in the country’s public health infrastructure. The announcement was made by Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal during Breast Cancer Awareness Week events in the capital.

Early Detection at the Heart of the Mission

Speaking at the launch, Kamal emphasized that the facility is designed to promote early diagnosis — the most effective strategy in reducing breast cancer fatalities. “We don’t want women to wait until they’re sick to seek help,” he said. “Pakistan’s first free breast cancer screening center will help identify the disease before symptoms appear.”

Awareness as the First Line of Defense

The minister stressed that education and awareness are critical tools in the fight against breast cancer. “This battle is won with knowledge,” he told attendees. “We must protect our mothers, sisters, and daughters through proactive screening and timely intervention.” He also praised healthcare workers for their service, saying those who ease human suffering earn immense reward.

Plans for Nationwide Expansion

Kamal hinted at broader plans to replicate the model across Pakistan, advocating for similar screening centers at the district level to ensure wider access. Officials believe Pakistan’s first free breast cancer screening center will serve as a blueprint for future facilities, helping reduce mortality rates and improve outcomes for women nationwide.

A Call to Action for Women

The minister urged women and young girls to take advantage of the new center’s services as a preventive measure. Health experts expect the initiative to significantly improve early detection rates and reduce the burden of breast cancer across the country.
