BAJAUR: A young man in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district has built a locally assembled helicopter after six years of work using his own resources, drawing attention to his mechanical skills and interest in aviation.
Subhanullah, who comes from a working-class family, developed the aircraft despite limited resources and says he began pursuing the project after learning motorcycle mechanics at a young age. Provincial authorities have reportedly offered him an opportunity to conduct a trial demonstration at the Bajaur Sports Complex on September 6.
If the demonstration is successful, authorities have promised to consider allowing the helicopter to take flight, according to Subhanullah.
Six Years of Work and Experimentation
Subhanullah said his interest in machinery grew after he learned motorcycle repair and began experimenting with different mechanical equipment. Developing the helicopter required him to travel to several cities, including Lahore, Timergara and Peshawar, to obtain parts and other materials.
The project has attracted local attention because of the scale of the undertaking and the limited resources available to its builder.
Subhanullah said his family supported and encouraged him throughout the six-year effort. His family earns a living by selling footwear in Punjab during the seasonal period.
Awaiting September 6 Trial
The upcoming demonstration at the Bajaur Sports Complex is expected to provide an opportunity for officials to assess the locally built aircraft. Subhanullah said he has been told that flight permission could be considered following a successful trial.
He also said that after completing the project once, he believes he can build another similar helicopter within a week. He expressed hope that government support could allow him to pursue larger and more advanced engineering projects in the future.
The September 6 demonstration will be an important step in determining whether the aircraft can proceed to an actual flight test.
