ISLAMABAD: The government of Japan has awarded 11 Pakistani students the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) research scholarships for the 2026 academic year, enabling them to pursue higher studies at leading Japanese universities.
The scholarships will allow the selected students to undertake master’s and doctoral programmes, supporting academic development while strengthening educational ties between Pakistan and Japan. Each year, additional Pakistani students also secure MEXT scholarships through direct applications to Japanese institutions.

He highlighted Japan’s long-standing commitment to education and human resource development, noting that the MEXT scholarship programme has facilitated opportunities for Pakistani students over several decades.
Focus on education and cultural exchange
The ambassador advised students to remain open-minded and engaged, emphasising that learning extends beyond classrooms to everyday experiences. He said such exchanges contribute to stronger mutual understanding between the two countries.
Referring to recent engagements, he noted that Pakistan’s participation in the Osaka-Kansai Expo helped promote the country’s image among Japanese audiences, particularly youth, and contributed to closer bilateral relations.
Strengthening bilateral ties
The ambassador outlined key priorities for future Pakistan-Japan relations, including expanding people-to-people exchanges, enhancing economic cooperation, and promoting cultural connections.
He also observed growing interest among Pakistani youth in Japan, particularly in learning the Japanese language and pursuing higher education opportunities.
The MEXT scholarship programme remains a key platform for academic collaboration, helping build long-term connections between the two countries through education and research.
