Social activist and psychologist Dr Nabiha Ali Khan has filed a petition for khula in a family court, seeking the dissolution of her marriage to her husband, Haris Khokhar.
According to the petition submitted through her lawyer, Chaudhry Mudassar Advocate, Dr Nabiha Ali Khan told the court that she no longer wishes to continue the marriage, citing allegations of abusive behavior and domestic violence.
Petition Alleges Abuse and Misconduct
In her court filing, Dr Nabiha Ali Khan alleged that her husband subjected her to verbal abuse and physical violence during their marriage.
The petition further states that she believes her husband does not possess good moral character and that she was treated in a degrading manner. Based on these allegations, she has requested the court to grant a decree of khula.
Court Asked to Grant Khula Decree
The petition requests the family court to issue a khula decree, which would legally dissolve the marriage under Pakistani family law.
The court has yet to announce its decision. The allegations contained in the petition represent the petitioner’s claims and have not been adjudicated by the court. No public response from Haris Khokhar was available at the time of publication.
