Pakistan and India have faced each other 212 times across different formats, but encounters between the traditional rivals in tournament finals have been comparatively rare.

Over the past four decades, the two sides have contested six finals, producing some of the most memorable moments in their cricketing rivalry.

1985, Melbourne: World Championship of Cricket

India defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket final in Melbourne.

Kris Srikkanth scored 67, while Ravi Shastri remained unbeaten on 63 to guide India to victory.

1986, Sharjah: Austral-Asia Cup — Miandad’s Historic Six

The 1986 Austral-Asia Cup final in Sharjah produced one of the most iconic finishes in Pakistan-India cricket history.

Pakistan needed four runs from the final delivery when Javed Miandad hit Chetan Sharma for a six, giving Pakistan a one-wicket victory. Miandad finished unbeaten on 116.

1994, Sharjah: Austral-Asia Cup

Pakistan defeated India in the 1994 Austral-Asia Cup final in Sharjah, with Saeed Anwar and Aamer Sohail playing important roles.

Sohail scored 69 runs and was named Player of the Match.

2007, Johannesburg: T20 World Cup

India edged Pakistan by five runs in the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup in Johannesburg.

Pakistan came close to chasing down the target, with Misbah-ul-Haq at the crease. Needing six runs from four deliveries, Misbah attempted a scoop off Joginder Sharma but was caught at short fine leg by Sreesanth.

2017, London: Champions Trophy

The 2017 Champions Trophy final remains another landmark encounter between the two sides.

Pakistan defeated India by a record 180 runs, with Fakhar Zaman’s century and Mohammad Amir’s outstanding bowling playing key roles in the victory.

2025, Dubai: Asia Cup

The two rivals met again in an Asia Cup final in Dubai in September 2025, where India won by five wickets with two balls remaining in a closely contested match.

Another Final on October 3

Pakistan and India are now scheduled to meet in the Asian Games final in Japan on October 3 at 9:30am. It will be their first meeting in an Asian Games final.
