Islamabad — In a bid to strengthen Pakistan-Uzbekistan trade ties, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) leadership met with Uzbek Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Islamabad. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral trade, improving connectivity, and exploring joint ventures.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub, and Vice President Mohammad Irfan Chaudhry were warmly welcomed by the Ambassador. He highlighted the historic friendship between the two nations and emphasized the untapped potential in agriculture, textiles, sports goods, and surgical instruments.
Currently, trade volume stands at USD 400–500 million. However, Ambassador Tukhtaev expressed optimism about raising it to USD 2 billion within the next few years. He noted that Uzbekistan is a key importer of Pakistani goods among the Central Asian Republics, while Pakistan sources cotton yarn, fruits, and other products from Uzbekistan.
To enhance connectivity, the Ambassador announced plans to double Uzbekistan Airways flights on the Tashkent–Islamabad–Tashkent route. Increasing weekly flights from one to two will ease travel and strengthen business linkages and people-to-people contact.
Sardar Tahir Mehmood reaffirmed ICCI’s commitment to boosting Pakistan-Uzbekistan trade ties. He said Pakistan offers vast opportunities in agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. He also proposed closer collaboration between ICCI and the Tashkent Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate B2B engagements and joint ventures.
Moreover, he described the growing partnership as a new chapter in regional cooperation and shared prosperity. He invited the Ambassador to visit ICCI, which His Excellency graciously accepted, expressing interest in further exploring trade promotion strategies.
Trade Counselor Alisher Duschanov, along with ICCI’s senior leadership, also shared insights on expanding commercial cooperation. The meeting concluded with mutual optimism about the future of Pakistan-Uzbekistan trade ties, especially in light of regional integration and economic diplomacy.
