Pakistan, US Launch 13th Joint Counterterrorism Exercise ‘Inspired Gambit–2026’

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan and the United States have commenced the 13th edition of their bilateral joint military exercise, Inspired Gambit–2026, aimed at strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and operational interoperability between the two forces.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the two-week exercise began on January 9 at the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), Pabbi, and involves professional contingents from the Pakistan Army and the United States Army.

Focus on Counterterrorism Operations

The joint exercise is being conducted in the Counter Terrorism (CT) domain, with a strong emphasis on sharing operational experience, enhancing mutual understanding, and refining tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) required for modern counterterrorism operations.

Training activities include urban warfare marksmanship, scenario-based drills, and familiarization with each other’s operational doctrines and best practices, enabling both forces to improve coordination in complex security environments.

Strengthening Military Cooperation

Officials from both countries attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the importance of sustained military-to-military engagement amid evolving regional and global security challenges.

ISPR stated that exercises such as Inspired Gambit play a vital role in enhancing professional military standards, improving joint operational readiness, and strengthening the capacity of both armies to respond effectively to terrorism-related threats.

The continuation of Inspired Gambit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and the United States to collaborative efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability, and security, particularly in counterterrorism operations.
