Islamabad, February 11, 2026 — A meeting of the Pakistan–Turkmenistan Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG), led by Convener Mr. Sanjay Perwani, MNA, was held with Atadjan Movlamov, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Islamabad.
The session brought together members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group, including Mr. Fateh Ullah Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bhugio, Mr. Arshad Abdullah Vohra, Dr. Darshan, and Ms. Naima Kanwal. The meeting focused on strengthening parliamentary engagement and exploring avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
Briefing on Turkmenistan’s governance and foreign policy
Ambassador Movlamov delivered a detailed presentation outlining Turkmenistan’s political system, constitutional framework, and parliamentary structure. He highlighted the country’s foreign policy based on principles of permanent neutrality, peace, and regional cooperation.
The envoy also discussed Turkmenistan’s development priorities, economic outlook, and participation in multilateral forums aimed at fostering dialogue and stability. He noted the country’s tourism potential, including its distinctive horse breeds and expansive natural landscapes.
Focus on trade and connectivity
Discussions also addressed the current state of Pakistan–Turkmenistan relations, with an emphasis on deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation through the respective Friendship Groups. Both sides explored opportunities to expand trade, improve transport and connectivity links, and enhance broader economic engagement.
Members of the PFG appreciated the comprehensive briefing and acknowledged Turkmenistan’s efforts toward regional cooperation and sustainable development. They underscored the value of regular dialogue, parliamentary exchanges, and people-to-people contacts in strengthening bilateral ties.
The Convener reaffirmed that Parliamentary Friendship Groups serve as an important institutional mechanism to promote coordination and understanding between legislatures. Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of Pakistan–Turkmenistan relations and agreed to maintain close contact for future collaboration.
