AICHI-NAGOYA: Pakistan secured a place in the semi-finals of the men’s hockey competition at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Oman 7-2 in their Pool B match in Japan on Monday.
Pakistan started aggressively and maintained pressure on Oman throughout the match, converting field opportunities and penalty corners into goals.
Rana Waheed Ashraf was the standout performer for Pakistan, completing a hat-trick with goals in the 34th, 44th and 59th minutes.
Sufyan Khan also made a major contribution, scoring twice from penalty corners in the 22nd and 28th minutes. Ghazanfar Ali added another goal in the 40th minute, while Muhammad Ammad scored in the 46th minute.
Oman responded with two goals from Al-Baraa Al-Naufali and Mudit Ayman, but Pakistan maintained control to finish with a five-goal advantage.
The victory marked Pakistan’s fourth win of the Asian Games campaign and confirmed their qualification for the semi-finals.
Pakistan had entered the match with three wins and one defeat in Pool B, including victories over Thailand, Uzbekistan and China, while losing 5-4 to Malaysia.
The semi-finals are scheduled for October 1, with the medal matches to follow on October 3.
