Pakistan’s Participation Subject to Government Clearance
While Mann said Pakistan Hockey Federation had confirmed its participation, Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani said the team’s visit to India remains subject to approval from the Pakistani government. Wani said the federation would follow the government’s decision on the national team’s participation.
The distinction is important because Mann’s announcement reflects the host side’s position, while the final decision for Pakistan’s team to travel rests with the relevant authorities in Pakistan.
Tournament Scheduled for October 27 to November 5
The Asian Champions Trophy will begin in Jalandhar on October 27, with the league stage running through November 2. The semi-finals are scheduled for November 4 and the final for November 5 in Mohali, according to Hockey India.
Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh also said the hockey federations of India and Pakistan maintain good relations. Oman and Bangladesh have been designated as reserve teams in case one of the participating sides withdraws.
The proposed India-Pakistan match is scheduled for November 1 in Jalandhar, although Pakistan’s participation remains dependent on the required government clearance.
