Pakistan signs MoU to expand remedial therapy services in federal schools

Islamabad, April 1, 2026 — The Government of Pakistan has signed an agreement to introduce remedial therapy services in educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), aiming to support students with learning disabilities through structured psychological and academic interventions.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFE&PT) in collaboration with the National Institute of Psychology (NIP), a Centre of Excellence at Quaid-i-Azam University. The initiative is part of efforts to implement the Dyslexia Bill 2022 and improve inclusive education in federal schools.

The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Education Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Secretary MoFE&PT Nadeem Mahbub, and senior officials of the Federal Directorate of Education. The agreement was formalised by Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director of NIP.

Focus on learning disabilities and support systems

Under the programme, a team of 60 remedial therapists and three expert coordinators will be deployed to provide diagnostic assessments and evidence-based therapeutic support to students facing learning challenges.

Officials said the initiative will integrate psychological care with teacher training, helping educators better address diverse learning needs within classrooms.

Building an inclusive education framework

The project aims to establish a sustainable support system within the formal education structure, ensuring that students with learning difficulties can achieve their academic potential.

According to the Ministry, the programme reflects a broader policy shift toward inclusive education, aligning institutional support with legislative measures such as the Dyslexia Bill.
