BEIJING, Mar 12: Pakistan is planning to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) in its agriculture sector to improve productivity and modernise farming practices, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Khalil Hashmi said on Thursday.

Speaking in Beijing during discussions linked to China’s annual “Two Sessions” meetings, Hashmi said Pakistan and China are working on establishing a joint laboratory focused on smart and digital agriculture. The initiative aims to strengthen technological cooperation between the two countries and support innovation in farming.

According to the ambassador, Pakistan is exploring the use of AI to enhance efficiency in crop production, livestock management, and the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. The technology could also help improve cold chain logistics used in the storage and transportation of agricultural products.

Hashmi said the cooperation includes collaboration in education, research and development, as well as the commercial application of agricultural technologies.

Earlier in January 2026, the Pakistan-China B2B Agriculture Investment Conference resulted in nearly 80 memorandums of understanding and agreements between companies from both countries, with a combined value of around $4.5 billion.

Officials say the growing partnership between Pakistan and China in agricultural technology is expected to support modern farming methods and improve productivity across the sector.
