ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced the processing time for normal passports from 21 days to 14 days, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced, in a move aimed at providing faster service to citizens across Pakistan.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by the interior minister, with senior officials and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry in attendance. The revised timeline is expected to ease delays faced by applicants and improve overall efficiency in passport issuance.

Officials said the reduced processing time will apply to standard passport applications nationwide.

The meeting also reviewed a series of reforms in the passport system. Authorities have been directed to introduce a fully cashless system at passport offices within 15 days, aimed at improving transparency and eliminating the role of agents.

In addition, the government plans to further improve the home delivery system to ensure applicants receive passports without unnecessary delays.

Officials were also instructed to expedite work on a proposed business passport system to facilitate frequent travellers.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the measures are part of broader efforts to modernise passport services and align them with public needs.
