Pakistan Not Under Threat From Iran Amid Regional Tensions: DG ISPR

Islamabad — Pakistan’s military has downplayed any threat of conflict with neighbouring Iran, saying the country is not at risk of being targeted amid heightened regional tensions and strategic volatility, according to statements attributed to the military’s media wing.

In recent public comments, Inter-Services Public Relations Director-General Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry emphasized that Pakistan’s defence posture remains secure and that Islamabad does not perceive Tehran as a direct threat. The remarks come against the backdrop of broader Middle East disputes involving Iran and multiple regional powers, which have raised concerns about spillover effects in South Asia.

Gen. Chaudhry’s comments reaffirm Pakistan’s longstanding policy of maintaining stable relations with Iran, rooted in historical, cultural and strategic considerations. He noted that Pakistan and Iran have traditionally sought peaceful coexistence and cooperation on shared security challenges, including counter-terrorism and border management.

The military spokesman also reiterated that Pakistan’s nuclear programme is secure and well-protected, highlighting its role as a credible deterrent that safeguards national sovereignty and regional balance. “No one can dare target Pakistan’s nuclear assets,” the General said in a past interview, underlining Islamabad’s defensive posture in a volatile regional security environment.

While tensions involving Iran’s nuclear ambitions and conflicts in neighbouring regions have prompted global concern, Islamabad has stressed that its focus is on maintaining peace and stability along its borders. Pakistan’s diplomatic leadership has engaged with both Tehran and other regional capitals to promote dialogue and defuse potential escalations in the wider Middle East.

Analysts say Pakistan’s insistence that it faces “no threat” from Iran reflects Islamabad’s broader strategic calculation: avoid entanglement in regional conflicts while safeguarding its own security interests and economic priorities.
